Abstract

This communication intends to describe the development of an improved variety of Mucana Pruriens (CIM-Sfurti) for the purpose of its registration for commercial cultivation. The variety (CIM-Sfurti) was bred through mutation breeding approach. It performed consistently better over the check variety CIM-Ajar developed by us five years ago and recorded a higher seed yield of 21.5q¹/ha, LDOPA content OF 4.64-5.16% AND L-DOPA yield of 98.90kg/ha. The new variety is ideally suited for cultivation in fruit orchards as a climber crop and is easy to harvest due to non-stinging pods.
